Manufacturer Car Trims
One pitfall a lot of 'sport compact' car buyers make when buying a new car is not knowing the differences between the trims. In some cases the trim names can be misleading as to their true contents. Many times a 'sport' or 'performance' trim will only be cosmetic changes with no serious upgrades to the drivability of the car. We will as part of this site go car by car listing the trim differences as they relate to performance. (meaning power/audio options will be included only as part of a package) Here are some of the more "standard'' performance trim names:
GT - Grand Touring
SS - Super Sport
GS - Grand Sport
*S - Sport/Supercharged
Type-S - Type Sport/Sport Type
*T - Turbocharged
*R - Racing
Type-R - Type Racing/Racing Type
SE - Special Edition/Sport Edition
There are of course specialized models/trims from some automakers such as the 'S4' from Audi or the 'Mazdaspeed' models from Mazda. These specialized types will be covered in a different section but include:
Z - Nissan (240Z, 280Z, 300Z, 350Z)
RX - Mazda (RX-7, RX-8)
M - BMW (M3, M5, M-Roadster)
More to come soon...
